Live wallpapers don’t draw a lot of power if they are well crafted, if you don’t spend a lot of time on your home screen, and if you set your screen to shut off fairly soon after you stop interacting with it. As the How-To Geek’s Chris Hoffman explains: Unless, that is, your phone has an OLED display, sometimes described as an AMOLED or Super AMOLED. On the display side, it may not matter much: your phone requires the same amount of light to display a dark color as a light color. Live wallpapers could potentially kill your battery in two ways: by causing your display to have to light up bright images, or by demanding constant action from your phone’s processor. The one without an extension would be an old Mac legacy TrueType font, which contains the same four faces (Plain, Bold, Italic, Bold Italic). followed by removing interfering Times New Roman file without. Since I manually removed those 4 files before posting my question here, correct answer after my original question would have involved reinstalling those 4 font files (via Pacifist or by more time-consuming method). I only wrote that into the article because that is the priority order OS X gives to fonts. I'm guessing that priority system was at least a part of the problem. ![]() I think Kurt's long write up said something about ~/Library/Font taking priority over the other 2 Font folders. Some of the open-source game projects are based on formerly proprietary games, whose source code was released as open-source software, while the game content (such as graphics, audio and levels) may or may not be under a free license. Given that game art is not considered software, there is debate about the philosophical or ethical obstacles in selling a game where its art is proprietary but the entire source code is free software. FLOSS game engines, like the Godot game engine, as well as libraries, like SDL, are increasingly common in game development, even proprietary ones. In recent years, this changed and availability of open-source tools like Blender, game engines and libraries drove open source and independent video gaming. In the 1900s a challenge to build high-quality content for games was the missing availability or the excessive price for tools like 3D modeller or toolsets for level design. The consequence of this is that open-source games often take longer to mature, are less common and often lack the production value of commercial titles. Many open-source games are volunteer-run projects, and as such, developers of free games are often hobbyists and enthusiasts. In general, open-source games are developed by relatively small groups of people in their free time, with profit not being the main focus. ![]() See also: List of commercial video games with available source code Participants in the Free Knowledge Game Jam 2015, an open source and open data oriented game jam ![]() ![]() ![]() The Jall Wooden Digital Alarm Clock rightfully earned its place at the top of our list. If you’re the clumsy type (or semiconscious from just waking up) and accidentally knock it off the bedside table, there’s no need to worry, because it made it through our drop test without a scratch, thanks to its sturdy and lightweight build. Instead, it was a pretty standard alarm that woke us up without incident, and was easy to turn off even with eyes half open. It didn’t have the best wake-up experience of all the clocks we tested (that title belongs to the sunrise clocks we’ll touch on later), nor did it have a terribly jarring alarm that scared us awake (we’ll talk more about those too). To turn the alarm fully off, press any button twice. And if you want to roll back into bed, you can set the snooze timer for nine minutes by pressing any of the buttons on the back. The alarm is also adjustable, with five different volume settings, so you can fine-tune the beeps to ensure you roll out of bed every time. It has a tone that isn’t so loud that it makes you jump out of bed, but it also isn’t so quiet that you’ll sleep right through it. First and foremost, the Jall is a solid alarm clock that will comfortably wake you up. The Jall Wooden Digital Alarm Clock looks nice, but we didn’t name it the best alarm clock just because of its looks. We can imagine one of its colors matching with nearly any interior decor. But when switched on, the time appears in a gentle white light behind the wood. When the clock isn’t plugged in or the display is off, it looks like a solid wooden block. But it also comes in three other finishes (black, brown and white), all of which have a clean, almost Japandi look. We tested the “yellow” clock, which looks like a nice pine. While there are plenty of fun and helpful features of the Jall, one of the most striking aspects is its design. ![]() You can toggle the dimmable display between showing temperature or the date as well as a “Sound Control” mode, which turns off the display and automatically turns it back on when movement or sound is detected. Speaking of extra features, this clock can show you the humidity and temperature of your room, which are actually critical factors to getting restful sleep. ![]() You can also choose if you want the alarms to go off every day or on weekdays only, which was another pleasant feature that was absent from many of the Jall’s competitors. Whenever you set or change your alarm, you have the option to set two other alarms as well, so you can have three different alarms active at once. The scroll wheel was especially useful, allowing you to speed through the numbers for hours and minutes instead of repeatedly pressing a button. Setting the time and alarm took us less than a minute when we first plugged it in, which was refreshingly short compared to other clocks. To set the time or alarm, all you have to do is press and hold a button and use the wheel to change the numbers on the screen. The Jall clock has a panel on the backside that houses all the controls, including three small buttons, four switches and a scrolling wheel. It’s got a 5-foot cord that should reach most outlets comfortably, and comes with a CR2032 battery that backs up your settings (although the small plastic latch that opens the battery door snapped off when we pulled too hard, so be careful when you need to switch the battery). Right out of the box, this clock was easy to use and setup was a breeze. Plus, at $25 (or less), the Jall Wooden Alarm Clock is equipped with incredibly useful features, such as the ability to set multiple alarms, humidity and temperature readings and a feature that puts the display to sleep and automatically wakes it back up if it senses movement or sound. It’s got a polished feel to it, and its wooden design gives it a look unlike any other clocks we tested. It’s simple to set, easy to read in the dark and has an alarm that is loud but won’t scare you awake. The Jall Wooden Digital Alarm Clock has everything you need - and more - in an alarm clock. Once everything is in position and the formwork has been checked for size, straight lines and watertightness, the concrete reinforcement should be positioned and tied into place, according to the construction design documents.Īt this point, pre-mixed concrete is poured into the formwork, ensuring complete and even coverage at all points. Once the site excavation has been completed and the pile or pad foundations are in place, formwork is positioned to enclose the entire ground beam area, according to the construction plans. Ground beams are made of reinforced concrete, which rests either directly on the soil or on concrete piles or pad foundations. This is an increasingly popular option, where time and access are tight. Whilst ground beams are very often poured in-situ, that isn’t an absolute necessity, and they can indeed be constructed off-site and then craned into position, for the fastest possible turnaround. Other benefits include time and cost savings, since ground beam construction is much faster than other types of foundation work, and it requires a lot less work in the levelling up stage of the process. Many ground beams are constructed on site, giving additional flexibility in difficult locations. One key advantage of using ground beams instead of other types of foundation is that they can accommodate a wider variation in ground conditions than regular trench footings, making them ideally suited to sites where the terrain is patchy, or where access is restricted. Ground beams are a popular choice for housing plots of all sizes. Once it is laid and fully dried, the ground beam can support blockwork or brick walls, and in some cases, it can even be used to edge a concrete floor. Instead of strip or trench footings, a concrete slab, called a beam, is laid on top of piles or pad foundations. This is normal and in no way effects the integrity of the product.A concrete ground beam is often used in place of other foundation techniques such as concrete footings.
